AV TECHNICIAN ASSISTANT

Location: Houstin, TX

Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented AV Technician Assistant to support the installation, setup, and maintenance of audiovisual systems in educational spaces. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Lead AV Technician to install and test equipment such as (but not limited to) cameras, speakers, microphones, servers, control systems, and other AV components. This role is hands-on and requires technical aptitude, strong communication skills, and a team-oriented attitude. Travel will be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the installation and configuration of AV equipment, including (but not limited to) cameras, microphones, speakers, servers, and control systems.
  • Mount and connect hardware of above AV equipment.
  • Run, terminate, and label cabling (e.g., HDMI, CAT5/6, audio, etc.) according to project requirements.
  • Support the setup, testing, and troubleshooting of AV systems to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Help unpack and organize equipment and tools on job site.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area during installations.
  • Document work progress and assist in maintaining inventory of AV tools and components.
  • Follow safety procedures (for both internal and external parties) and company policies at all times.
  • Provide general support to the Lead AV Technician and other team members as needed.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant technical certifications are a plus.
  • 2-3 years of AV installation experience
  • Basic knowledge of AV systems and components.
  • Confident with using hand and power tools.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 60 pounds and work on ladders/stepstools when necessary.
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn on the job.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to various job sites may be required.

Preferred Qualifications/Certifications

  • OSHA 10
  • Familiarity with AV signal types (analog, digital, HDMI, etc.).
  • Understanding of AV control systems and network-based AV solutions.


This is a contractual 1099 position with a set daily rate, based on a maximum of 10 working hours per day. The company will fully cover all approved travel-related expenses associated with job assignments, including transportation and lodging.
